I'm Coming For You, Mountain Child

I received a key to the erg room this past weekend. With one month to pull myself together for my race in Sendai, I figured I better start laying down some meters.

It was rough going. If you think erging is hard, try erging to Japanese ska music--the herpetic lesion on the genitals of the international music community.

Luckily, during the rest after my first 10k I found a scratched-up copy of Bon Jovi's "Have a Nice Day" at the bottom of the CD pile. I never thought I'd compliment the man, but I must admit it felt really good to finish out the day to New Jersey's finest. It's all relative, I guess. In the land of crappy Japanese pop music, Bon Jovi starts to sound like a musical genius.

Also exciting: today may have marked the first time in the past 5 years that I've erged without hearing either "Sandstorm" OR AC/DC.

"..New Jersey's finest"? I take offense. Springsteen is from Jersey.

I had never heard of Sandstorm and had to look it up on YouTube. Guess it is one of those things where you have to be there.

But, it seems like techno is a favorite among rowers, who knew?

Yeah, rowers enjoy repetitive and boring music because most of them are in fact boring and repetitive people.

Luckily, there's hope for rehabilitation...you just have to stop rowing.

We always liked Sandstorm because there's an actual 10% physiological advantage from the part where it breaks out and goes crazy.

Hmmm, does Sandstorm really provide a 10% advantage? Let's apply reductio ad absurdum lite. Would erging to Kenny G degrade one's results (yeah, because you'd have to get up and smash the ghetto blaster mid-way through). QED.

Nate, do you want us to ship you your "portfolio" of erg-metal CDs? I think I can find that crusty black CD wallet with RAWK written on it somewhere...

rawk is actually in my car. if you need it, i can mail it to you.

You'll never pull a bad split as long as Boston by Blue Man Group and Sweet Cherry Pie by Poison are in the mix. And while you're at it, Poop On My Pee is also a classic.

I never thought I would see the day that Luke would write "Poop on my pee".
